Bali 2012 - Part 4 - Lasting Impressions

The volcano Agung greets my fourth and final incoming flight to Bali

...and neighbouring Lombok's Volcano Rinjani

Rice fields of Tirta Gangga - protected from birds by flapping sheet technology

Standard roadside beauty on an inland road trip from Ubud to Amed

Bali's Mother Temple Besakih at the base of the Volcano Agung

Getting on the bike and getting lost on the island always brings visual treats...

Just missed the 90 year-old woman in the "Porn Star" t-shirt. The photo that got away...

The "catch-throw-pass" tiling method favoured in modern roofing

A hand-made masterpiece across a ravine, constructed with logic-defying speed

Burning residual straw after the rice harvest - a view, and smell sensation, from my room

Artist hang-out in one of the remaining quiet streets of Ubud - Jalan Goutama

Puppet Theatre - lights, shadows and, of course, Bali's ever-present gamelan

Cicak-stylin'

One biscuit crumb discarded in a bin was later found carried up a tall wall and out the window by a stream of ants.
To help out, one large ant rode on the top of it and ate it down to a more manageable size.

Gecko!

Views from my room...

My thong (flip-flop) broke on a stony beach.
I fixed it, Balinese-style, by using nearby trash.

Amed Gallery - an hour of sky art every night

Bingin, on southern Bali's Bukit Peninsula

Candidasa, eastern beaches

All good things must come to an end. Fading light closes another day at the Bali Spirit Festival.

Farewelling my trusty bike and room

Sumptuous skies before the descent into Melbourne.

Soon to reconnect with family and friends and reflect on a life well lived in 2012.

These are all introspective moments when the camera came out, times of quietude, but the bulk of the experience was with the people - locals, expats and travellers - who made this a fascinating year in Bali.

Thanks to everyone who was a part of it, and my supportive crew at home :-) xx
